Key Highlights

  • Over 72.22 lakh pregnant women have been registered under Mission Poshan 2.0 as of July 2025.
  • PMMVY has disbursed maternity benefits to more than 4.05 crore women since its inception on January 1, 2017.
  • The National Health Mission’s suite of interventions—including SUMAN, JSSK, PMSMA and IFA supplementation—has expanded coverage across 33 states.
  • Technological tools such as the Poshan Tracker App and the mandatory Facial Recognition System (FRS) are now enabling near real‑time monitoring and fraud prevention.
  • Special outreach has reached tribal communities, with 2,500 new Anganwadi centres sanctioned under PM JANMAN.

Detailed Insights

Mission Poshan 2.0 now operates a life‑cycle nutrition framework that integrates Anganwadi services, adolescent schemes and a take‑home ration (THR) of 600 calories and 18–20 g protein per day for children aged 6 months–6 years, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls. The THR is dispensed for 300 days yearly, supported by the Poshan Tracker App that records beneficiary status in 24 languages.

Since July 1, 2025, the Facial Recognition System (FRS) has been mandated at every distribution point to verify identities, thereby eliminating duplicate entitlements and ensuring that only registered women receive the THR.

The National Health Mission (NHM) has rolled out coordinated campaigns: SUMAN guarantees free and respectful maternal care; JSSK provides free deliveries—including C‑sections—with transport, medicines and diagnostics; PMSMA offers fixed‑day monthly specialist antenatal visits; and IFA supplementation coupled with deworming tackles anaemia in mothers.

Capacity‑building efforts have trained more than 41,000 state and local master trainers, and over 5.81 million Anganwadi workers through the Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi programme.

Focused interventions in tribal regions under the PM JANMAN mission now cover 2,500 Anganwadi centres, ensuring that vulnerable tribal groups gain access to essential nutrition services.

Key Concepts

  • Mission Poshan 2.0 – An integrated nutrition programme that combines institutional deliveries, supplementation and life‑cycle services to reduce malnutrition among mothers and children.
  • PMMVY – Maternity benefit scheme that provides a cash award to pregnant and lactating women for health, nutrition and wellness.
  • Poshan Tracker – A mobile‑based platform that logs beneficiaries, monitors THR distribution, and allows women to access health counselling.
  • Facial Recognition System (FRS) – Biometrics‑based verification to prevent duplication and ensure targeted delivery of THR.
  • PM JANMAN – Special program targeting nutrition in tribal areas, especially for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
