Detailed Insights

The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation records a continuous decline in overall unemployment, following 5.6% in June and 5.2% in July. This trend holds across both urban and rural sectors, with rural employment gaining momentum as agricultural activities expand.

Male unemployment dropped to a seasonal low of 5.0%; urban males fell from 6.6% to 5.9%, while rural males slipped from 4.5% to slightly lower levels.

Women’s participation is the most significant shift. The worker population ratio for females climbed from 30.2% to 32.0%, and the labour force participation rate surged from 32% to 33.7%. Rural women, in particular, saw their participation rise from 35.2% to 37.4%.

Overall figures for the whole workforce show an upward trajectory: the worker population ratio reached 52.2%, while the overall labour force participation rate climbed to 55%.
