Detailed Insights

The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in June 2020, was designed to cushion vendors hit by the pandemic and to encourage a shift toward digital transactions. Applicants must be street vendors or hawkers operating in urban or peri‑urban locales, possess a Certificate of Vending or an equivalent identity card issued by a Urban Local Body, and be at least 18 years old. Documents can be substituted with a Letter of Recommendation from a ULB where the certificate is missing.

Benefits of the scheme include low‑interest loans that are free of collateral, systematic growth of a credit history, and cashback on digital payments. These advantages collectively aid vendors in accessing future financing and in integrating with government welfare networks.

To apply, vendors visit the official portal, furnish their Aadhaar‑linked mobile number, submit personal, business and bank details, upload required identity and vending documents, and monitor the status online. Recent updates have streamlined the upgrade process for subsequent tranches, accelerated disbursement through Aadhaar‑linked accounts, and expanded cash‑back offerings for UPI/QR usage.
