Detailed Insights
Location and Access: The falls lie beside Mawsmai village, approximately four kilometers from Sohra in the East Khasi Hills. The nearest airport is in Shillong, while Guwahati railway station serves as the closest railhead; road journeys from either hub offer scenic routes.
Monikers: Locally referred to as Nohsngithiang Falls or Mawsmai Falls, international visitors know it as Seven Sisters Falls.
Hydrological Feature: Water splits into seven streams as it drops, evoking an image of seven sisters standing side by side, and some attribute the division to the seven northeastern states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Although the waterfall can be seen year‑round, its full glory manifests during the monsoon when volumes surge.
