Key Highlights

  • QR‑coded signboards deliver real‑time project data and emergency numbers at a single scan.
  • They are positioned at rest stops, toll gates, highway termini and major junctions for maximum reach.
  • The boards link directly to the national 1033 emergency line and nearby medical, police and petrol facilities.
  • Data such as chainage, length, construction time, and toll plaza proximity becomes immediately visible to every traveler.

Detailed Insights

In a bid to modernise interstate travel, the NHAI has rolled out a network of vertical QR boards along its corridors. Each board reveals National Highway number, chainage, project length, construction and maintenance timelines and a suite of contact numbers—from highway patrol to the emergency helpline 1033. Additionally, the boards act as navigational aids by pointing out the nearest hospitals, petrol pumps, toilets, police stations, eateries, repair shops, truck lay‑by sites, and e‑charging stations, as well as the upcoming toll plaza distance.

Strategic placement at roadsides, toll booths, highway endpoints and key waypoints ensures that the information is available whenever a driver or passenger might need it, thereby reducing response times during accidents and curbing delays caused by miscommunication.

Key Concepts

  • QR Code – a scannable graphic that instantly conveys data to mobile devices.
  • 1033 Helpline – India’s national emergency number for transport‑related incidents.
  • Chainage – the kilometer marker indicating a specific location on the highway.
  • Toll Plaza – a service point where vehicles pay road tolls.
