Detailed Insights

The Tamil Nadu Deep‑Tech Startup Policy for FY 2025‑26 is designed to shepherd scientifically‑intensive ideas from the bench to the marketplace. By earmarking ₹100 crore, the government intends to back 100 early‑stage firms that require longer gestation periods than conventional startups. The framework offers a layered support system: seed financing, access to cutting‑edge infrastructure such as AI data centres and semiconductor fabs, seasoned mentorship, and formal partnerships with established corporations.

Targeted verticals encompass Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Computing, Semiconductor design and fabrication, Biotechnology, Space‑related technologies, and Clean‑Energy solutions. The ambition is to generate high‑value intellectual property and nurture firms that can compete globally. The policy was announced at the fourth Umagine Technology Conference in Chennai by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, positioning the state as a magnet for frontier‑technology investment.

During the conference, memoranda of understanding were signed with three private entities:

  • Better Compute Works – ₹5,000 crore to build an AI‑centric data hub, creating 1,450 jobs.
  • Eros GenAI – ₹3,600 crore for expanding AI research operations, adding 1,000 positions.
  • Phantom Digital Effects – ₹100 crore to enlarge VFX capabilities, with 1,000 new roles.

In parallel, the Information Technology Minister highlighted extensive outreach activities: workshops at 60 institutions, the Umagine DX programme, and the selection of 40 startups under the StartupTN platform to pitch at international forums in Dubai, Singapore, and Sharjah, backed by the Dubai World Trade Centre.
