Detailed Insights

National Career Service (NCS) is a flagship platform launched in 2015 under the Ministry of Labour & Employment. It connects seekers with employers across sectors, mobilising over 7.7 crore vacancies by 2025 and advancing Digital India’s goal of inclusive and transparent recruitment.

Zomato’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) introduces a new “Aggregator” category on the NCS site. Each year Zomato will list around 250,000 flexible livelihood roles tailored for delivery and gig workers, ensuring digital registration and eligibility for social protection schemes.

The collaboration dovetails with the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM‑VBRY) and the long‑term Vision 2047. It seeks to formalise gig work, promote job dignity, and encourage other platforms to adopt similar models, thereby recognising platform economy roles as legitimate employment.

By digitising contracts, linking workers to insurance and pension schemes, and providing flexible yet structured work, the MoU addresses the gaps that currently leave gig workers outside formal employment benefits.
