Detailed Insights

The Diamond Jubilee ceremony began with a welcome address by Director‑General of the NSS, Smt. Geeta Singh Rathore, followed by the inauguration delivered by Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation. The Hon’ble Minister later highlighted the pivotal role that the NSS has played in shaping policies across employment, consumption, health, and education, and affirmed the government’s resolve to embed cutting‑edge technology within the statistical workflow.

Keynote speaker Shri Amitabh Kant, India’s G20 Sherpa, reflected on three quarters of the survey’s legacy, stressing that robust, evidence‑based decision‑making is indispensable for national progress. He called for sustained innovation to keep India competitive on the global stage.

Dr Saurabh Garg, Secretary of MoSPI, praised the NSS for delivering reliable data and acknowledged the National Statistical Office’s strides in improving accessibility and timeliness of survey outputs.

The event also featured the launch of two Diamond Jubilee publications—Journey of NSS 75 Years: Household Surveys and Journey of NSS 75 Years: Enterprise Surveys—and the conferral of Karmayogi awards on outstanding NSO personnel.

Two expert panels deliberated on the future of India’s statistical system. The first, moderated by Dr Dalip Singh, explored themes such as bridging data gaps, leveraging AI/ML for survey design, and establishing real‑time data streams for policy impact. The second panel, led by Shri Praveen Srivastava, examined the growing relevance of alternative data sources in economic policy formulation.

Overall, the celebration reinforced the NSS’s centrality to India’s vision of a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047, highlighting the need for continuous technological infusion, cross‑sector partnerships, and capacity‑building among field staff.
