Detailed Insights

The partnership between Srishti Art Gallery and Goethe‑Zentrum Hyderabad launches an ambitious international exhibition entitled “Topographies of Tents, Terracotta, and Time.” Curator Matthew Partridge, a Cambridge‑educated writer and musician, assembled a trio of creators whose practices intersect material experimentation with personal narratives of movement.

Arnaldo Drés González (Venezuela/Germany) recycles discarded objects into glowing pathways and provisional shelters, evoking the precariousness of displaced lives. His installations articulate the fluidity of belonging through light‑filled passages that appear and vanish.

Sudhakar Chippa (India) reimagines the ancient medium of terracotta as buoyant, geometric modules that hover above the floor, symbolising rapid urbanisation and the tension between heritage and contemporary development.

Swen Kählert (Germany) merges architectural thinking with acrylic fluidity; his pieces evolve as time, gravity and ambient conditions act upon the polymer, suggesting a living architecture that reshapes itself.

The three artists immersed themselves in Hyderabad’s cultural landscape during a residency at Banyan Hearts Open Studio. González and Kählert drew on local materials and scenery, while Chippa contributed regional insight, resulting in a dialogue captured through photography and video documentation.

The exhibition runs from 23 February 2025, open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm, at Srishti Art Gallery, Jubilee Hills. Media queries may be directed to Selavu Kandukuri (+91 8179310208) or gallery@srishti.art.
