Key Highlights

  • India launches groundbreaking initiatives at ISA 2025 to reshape the solar landscape.
  • The SUNRISE program transforms decommissioned panels into economic assets, promoting circularity.
  • OSOWOG envisions a worldwide solar grid linking Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa for continuous power.
  • GCC and ISA Academy build a global innovation network, positioning India as a solar research hub.
  • New procurement platform supports energy‑secure, resilient solar solutions for Small Island Developing States.

Detailed Insights

India’s address at the eighth International Solar Alliance (ISA) assembly marked a decisive step toward a just, inclusive energy transition. By weaving innovation, circular‑economy principles, and equitable access into its agenda, the country called upon participating members to adopt a forward‑looking solar roadmap.

Central to the declaration are five flagship programmes. SUNRISE – an acronym for Solar Upcycling Network for Recycling, Innovation & Stakeholder Engagement – aims to convert discarded solar modules into green jobs and sustainable products.

The OSOWOG effort seeks to weave a single, 24‑hour solar grid across continents, enabling day‑to‑day power availability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

India’s Global Capability Centre will act as a research and development hub, offering AI‑driven training and a “Silicon Valley for Solar” ecosystem, while the ISA Academy extends personalised, AI‑powered learning to participants worldwide.

In collaboration with the World Bank, the SIDS Procurement Platform pools purchasing demand from 16 Small Island Developing States, lowering costs and bolstering resilience for island communities across the Caribbean, Pacific, and Indian Ocean.

Key Concepts

  • SUNRISE: Solar upcycling and circular innovation to repurpose obsolete panels.
  • OSOWOG: One Sun, One Grid – a single renewable‑energy network covering multiple continents.
  • Global Capability Centre (GCC): India’s integrated R&D and innovation hub for solar technology.
  • ISA Academy: AI‑enhanced platform providing customised solar education globally.
  • SIDS Procurement Platform: Joint purchasing scheme for Small Island Developing States to secure affordable, resilient solar solutions.
