Key Highlights

  • Shell India and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship have jointly launched a nationwide green-skills training initiative.
  • The curriculum centers on electric‑vehicle systems, battery management, diagnostics, and safety, delivered across five major states.
  • More than 250 trainers will be up‑skilled, enabling ~3,300 students to earn Shell‑co‑branded certificates that directly connect them to the emerging EV industry.
  • In line with India’s net‑zero trajectory, the programme reinforces the country’s push for clean‑energy employment and climate‑ready infrastructure.
  • Partnerships with Edunet Foundation and DGT’s training institutes (NSTI, ITI) ensure a blended blend of theoretical knowledge and intensive hands‑on labs.

Detailed Insights

Under the Directorate General of Training’s umbrella, the green‑skills initiative is structured into three tiers of coursework. At the national level, advanced technicians will undergo a 240‑hour program at four selected National Skill Training Institutes. Concurrently, 12 Industrial Training Institutes will offer 90‑hour job‑oriented modules, while additional ITIs will deliver a focused 50‑hour foundational course with digital resources where physical labs are unavailable.

Training of Trainers (ToT) is a cornerstone of the scheme: the programme will certify over 250 industry experts who will, in turn, proliferate the curriculum across partner institutions. The joint certification—bearing both Shell’s corporate branding and DGT’s governmental seal—provides a dual endorsement that signals readiness for green‑technology roles. Placement services are built into the framework, aiming to accelerate the transition of trained individuals into the electric‑mobility workforce.

Key Concepts

  • EV Diagnostics – systematic evaluation of vehicle subsystems to detect faults and optimize performance.
  • Battery Management Systems (BMS) – integrated hardware-software platforms that monitor cell health, charge cycles, and safety thresholds.
  • Green Skills – competencies that enable individuals to design, maintain, and upgrade clean‑energy technologies.
  • National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) – a government‑backed centre that offers in‑depth, industry‑aligned training pathways.
  • Industrial Training Institute (ITI) – a vocational establishment focused on practical, job‑ready instruction for a broad base of workers.
