Key Highlights

  • Flat ₹3,000 charge gives private cars, jeeps and vans one year of unlimited trips.
  • Validity limited to 200 toll passages or 365 days, whichever occurs first.
  • Scheme covers every National Highway, activated through Rajmarg Yatra, NHAI and MoRTH portals.
  • Once purchased, no further toll is debited till the 200‑trip threshold is reached.

Detailed Insights

The initiative, announced on 18–June–2025 by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, targets chronic bottlenecks on highways where toll plazas are often spaced less than 60 km apart. By locking in a single annual fee, commuters are freed from the repetitive calculations that previously varied from 2 % to 10 % of the fare per trip. The pass also removes on‑site disputes, improves traffic flow and signals a broader push toward an automated, cash‑less infrastructure on the country’s 46,000‑km National Highway network.

The pass is not a commercial vehicle benefit; it is restricted to non‑commercial four‑wheelers. Activation is straightforward—enter the vehicle registration, link an existing FASTag and pay the fee through the official app or websites, after which the pass is automatically applied to every toll stop until the limit is saturated.

Key Concepts

  • FASTag – an RFID‑based electronic toll collection (ETC) tool that automatically debits tolls from a prepaid linked account.
  • National Highway – the backbone road system designated by the Central Government, spanning over 46,000 km and comprising 2,640 routes.
  • Toll Plaza – a dedicated lane at a highway crossing where tolls are collected; congestions arise when plazas are closely spaced.
  • Digital‑First Tolling – an approach that prioritises electronic, contact‑less payment over manual cash collection, improving speed and transparency.
