  • The deal aligns with a 2030 target of 30,670 MW, supported by new brownfield Ultra Supercritical plants and a greenfield site in Mirzapur.

Detailed Insights

Adani Power Limited (APL) completed a strategic enlargement of its thermal portfolio by taking over the Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) complex, situated in Butibori of Nagpur district. The two 300 MW units, fueled by local coal reserves, have been integrated into APL’s existing network of plants across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and several other states. The transaction, valued at ₹4,000 crore, was sanctioned under India’s insolvency resolution framework and cleared by the NCLT on 18 June 2025, with all formalities sealed by 7 July 2025.

With the Vidarbha addition, the company’s aggregate capacity reaches 18,150 MW, a figure that currently makes APL the preeminent private thermal generator in the country. The firm is simultaneously advancing six ultra‑supercritical brownfield projects—located in the Singrauli‑Mahan belt of Madhya Pradesh, Raipur, Raigarh, Korba, Kawai and a greenfield plant slated for Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh—aiming to amplify output to 30,670 MW by 2030. A 1,320‑MW supercritical unit at Korba is already back on the construction timeline.

CEO SB Khyalia highlighted that the company’s growth strategy spans both the expansion of brand‑new projects and the rationalization of existing assets to deliver reliable and economically feasible power, reinforcing Adani Power’s pledge to support India’s ambition for universal electrification.
