Key Highlights

  • Only a single platform serves the entire station.
  • Train arrivals are rare; just a handful of services stop each day.
  • Facilities are basic—water dispensers and benches, no electrification.
  • Despite its modest size, it remains a lifeline for nearby commuters.

Detailed Insights

Nawanshahr Doaba Junction (NSS) sits within the Firozpur division of Northern Railways, 256.3 metres above sea level. The yard runs on a single 5‑ft‑6‑inch broad‑gauge track and is served by the Phagwara‑Nawanshahr line that links to Jalandhar City Junction.

Two secondary branches radiate from it: the Nawanshahr‑Jaijon line and the Nawanshahr‑Rahon line, but both witness very infrequent movement. The station is not electrified, hence diesel locomotives dominate.

Its limited platform capacity combined with low train frequency means that most journeys are conducted during peak hours. Nevertheless, for students, traders and local residents, the station offers essential connectivity to larger markets and services in Jalandhar.

Key Concepts

  • Platform – a raised stretch where passengers board and alight trains.
  • Broad Gauge – a track width of 5 ft 6 in, the most common gauge in India.
  • Railway Division – an administrative sector of Indian Railways that manages a geographic segment.
  • Train Frequency – the number of departures that stop at a station in a given period.
  • Electrification – the installation of overhead lines to power electric locomotives.
